Overcoming Writer's Block

I know, it's a difficult thing. Life seems so wonderful when you're just pecking away at the keys, effortlessly spitting out knowledge. You wish you could remain in this state of mind forever. The words just keep flowing and the ideas are fresh and original and --

You like... writing... stuff. It's good...

Writer's block tends to come unannounced. Generally there are no symptoms, but you may experience temporary blanks, quickly overcoming one just to face another a few minutes later. The recovery time varies depending on how severe the individual's case is, so don't count on getting all better after you read this. Although, come to think of it, it may very well be possible.

Don't fret over common writer's block. I say common because, well, there's no cure for chronic writer's block. Sorry.

Need some suggestions for overcoming this disease? You've come to the right place. Read on!

Sit back in your chair (recliner, couch, cardboard boxes, whatever you sit on in front of your computer) and close your eyes. Let your mind wander. Do not think about what you're stuck on. Think about a nice vacationing place you'd like to go. Let yourself go free.

Go for a nice walk. Outside would be nice. Downstairs on the treadmill may not work the same way but, hey, give it a shot if that's all you've got.

Have some tea. Coffee may not be that great of an idea, considering the caffeine (depending on how much this drug affects you) may have you up until 3AM rocking in the corner gnawing on your thumbs.

Get on the phone with a friend. Sometimes talking may help relieve your mind. Make sure it's a friend to whom you can say whatever comes to mind. It's easier that way.

Play with pets. If you have any domesticated animals (I don't suggest feeding the seagulls at the beach), then pet them or play fetch with them. This may relieve stress.

Program in C or code a nice website using HTML and CSS. Or, take some pictures outside and edit them in Photoshop.

Take a bubble bath. This may seem frightening at first because for some people the last time they were in a tub full of warm soapy water was next to their sibling around the age of 4.

Light candles and dim the lights. Relax your mind. Drinking tea (Suggestion 3) while completing this tip will provide you with the best results.

Bake an apple pie. This make release stress and they say the cinnamon scent is good for you. Supposedly it brings back nice memories. If you get stressed out when you bake, I don't suggest you follow this tip. If you really want pie though, go out to the store and grab some. Indulgence may help, who knows?

If you're a quick learner, you'll realize that all these suggestions were focused on getting you relaxed and taking your mind off of the task-at-hand (which you can't seem to complete, in case you forgot) So, try your best to come up with some of your own tips to get you at ease.

Soon enough you'll be typing eloquent sentences again, correct grammar and all! The paragraphs will be flowing as easily as they once were- just like before this nasty case of Writer's block. Now, settle in and get typing, because maybe what you're working on will sell for millions! Either that, or earn you a quaint spot on Triond among all the others.
