Print Journalism Vs. Online Journalism

Newspapers are still incredibly popular and will no doubt continue to be for many years to come, however there is a new kid on the block as far as the way people get their news and information is concerned.

Times are evolving and the internet is slowly but surely pushing printed news to one side, leaving itself a clear path to the future of how people will gather their news.

Every media organisation has had to move forward with this evolution by producing websites in order to continue competing in their market.

If you have even bothered to read to this fourth paragraph (all will become clear later) then the rest of this article will try to help those journalists who are struggling to make the change from printed to online journalism.

The Reasons for the Nets Popularity

There are so many reasons for why people are now looking towards the internet for their daily fix of news.

The Web is constant and can be updated at the touch of a button when needed, compare this to a newspaper which is out of date the second it is printed. By the time it hits the newsagents most of the stories are old news to those who have already logged onto the internet in the morning, or even the night before.

Add to the convenience of being able to access the internet wherever you are as long as you have the correct device, when before people would have gone out of their way to buy a paper you have to of the main reasons why the net has boomed.

Websites also have the luxury of being able to use audio and video to capture their audience on top of pictures and text which is all newspapers have to offer.

Fact

Web users will generally ignore any unnecessary information on screen.

A massive 79% of people who read pages on the internet will simply just scan the page instead of reading it word for word.

Of the small percentage of people who read 100% of an online article they will actually only take in 75% of the content.

Why?

When reading from a computer screen the process is 25% longer than reading from a paper article.

Computer monitors increase eye strain and fatigue much more that a newspaper does.

Web users want to find the information they require quickly and easily if they cannot do this then they will not waste their time looking for it.

Tips for Journalists

The longer the text is for an online article the more you are reducing the chance that readers will actually perform the important act of reading it, so keep it short!

Try and tell your story in the first four paragraphs, that way you will hit the reader with everything they need before they even have a chance to look away.

Long blocks of text are for newspapers so stay well clear, break your text up by using headlines, sub headlines and captions in order to capture your reader.

Whatever you do though do not substitute your style for high-quality journalism, so remember your facts but do not put too many in the main body of your text. Make them attractive to the reader by putting them in a snazzy fact box separate to your text.

Finally it is a general rule that online text should be 50% less than what it would have been if it was published in a newspaper.

So if you remember anything from this article then it is to keep your paragraphs short and snappy, try and keep them below four lines where possible.

But keep your sentences shorter.

Facts and figures taken from the Nielsen Web Writing Research Report.

Triond Income: Is It Possible to Make Hundreds and Thousands?

What are you making?

Are you making cents on Triond? Do you think it is a waste of time? If you think it is well think again. Every writer has had this problem of earning money on Triond and I do agree as I have also had the same problem. But do not lose hope as you are a few steps away from making a more decent income here.

This article will give you an example of what you can make here on Triond whether it is cents, dollars, hundreds or even thousands! You can make it but how? Work work and work!

Now I am not saying to spend your whole day and every minute writing here but what I am saying is that once you trust yourself and this website, you can gradually build this income far more than what you might think!

My story: it is not pages long, lol!

I joined this site back in May 2008 and so far I have made a total of around $8-10! Now you might think this is a load of crap but to be honest, I didn’t use the site as much as I am now! I only published around 10 content pieces and I actually made a few cents a month. Yes this is as low as 3 cents!

But for a few months, I have worked extremely hard, publishing 10 pieces of content a day and I have reached nearly 200! But what about my income? I have made a total of $6.92 in December! It is not much but a lot more than 3 cents, don’t you agree?

Forget cents, what about hundreds or even thousands!

Here are a few calculations which will help all of us with Triond! Some writers earn hundreds already and this is because of their popularity here and what they write. So how do they earn so much? Here is the info.

Page views are important because this is one way we earn revenue. So how much page views do we need to earn? I was a little disappointed about the page views because it takes near 5-10 page views for 1 or 2 cents!

But how on earth can I make hundreds or even thousands if I make 1 or 2 cents for every 5-10 page views?

The simple thing to do is write write and write! This way you can build these cents to a few dollars and eventually it should turn to hundreds.

But how much do I need to write?

Here is a formula I have calculated for all of us. This should definitely help.

Cents

Writing below 100 articles:

1 article – 5-10 page views = 1 cent!

50 articles – 5-10 page views/1 cent for each article = 50 cents!

Dollars

Writing hundreds of articles:

100 articles – 5-10 page views/1 cent for each article = $1!

(So here you can see that for publishing at least a hundred articles, you can make a dollar from them IF they generate 1 cent each)

200 articles – 5-10 page views/1 cent for each article = $2!

Writing over 1000 articles:

1000 articles – 5-10 page views/1 cent for each article = $10!

(If you want to calculate 2 cents for every article, just add the amount you see for the formulas above. For example, 1000 articles generating 2 cents for each piece will make $20 instead of $10)

A formula for thousands of dollars:

5000 articles – 50 page views for one article = 5 cents

5 cents for every piece = $2500!

I am not going to go further but you do know where I am going don’t you? But depending on the amount of page views you get, you can generate over hundreds or thousands of dollars on Triond! To make thousands, you will have to work very hard but you might be lucky to make over 5-10 page views a day which would give you more!

I am concluding this long article now as I do not want to bore you lol!

At the moment, I am aiming to create a total of 1000 articles here and I have nearly created 200! Wish me luck!

If you want to make more money, please add me as a friend as I will look at your work but I might not be able to comment on your works too often as I am too busy with college and everything.

Hope you all the best for 2009 and beyond!

Find a topic you like writing about and generate ideas on paper write draft copies of your piece and ask friends or family to read it to get an opinion on your standard of writing.

Motivate yourself to keep on going if you are stuck trying reading famous writer’s books and look at the style of the writing but do not steal parts of the book and try to pass it off as your own.

Try watching news bulletins or read stories in the newspaper and take a real life situation and write a story about for example why war is wrong or why nuclear bombs should be disposed of and never used.

Think about a time in your life that was the most enjoyment you ever had or a serious situation you were in and how you solved it.

Try writing lots of stories as the more stories you write the better you will become and more people will pay attention to you.

Catchy Titles for More Profit

We all have the same problem when writing an article, when it's all said and done, the title remains a mystery. Writing an article can sometimes be a headache, especially if it is not in the area of your expertise. But the hardest bit, is giving it a title which will attract attention of the readers.

Your title should always bind with your article; this will avoid the readers of any misunderstanding of your contents. The title is there to provide a very brief summery of the content you intend to share with the readers. A perfect article, full of catchy information but with a wrong title, won't attract any attention.

The readers always scan the title first, before reading the contents, and that's a fact. Thus, let us use this as our advantage. Making your title stand out is your goal; it's like having a gun with just one bullet, one chance to hit.

Choosing your title

Titles can vary, from shocking to passive, from defensive to offensive, from mysterious to facts. Now, let us examine what is the best title to suit your article. If writing an article about fly fishing for example and the contents is specifically describing the type of lures used, a title which makes the readers curios is what you need. “Fly fishing, lures you should now” ; this title is challenging the reader that if he/she is really interested in fly fishing, than they have to read this article, as this information you are providing in the article will be of valuable use to them. Not knowing the information that it's in the article, will hinder them from making full use of their potential in their hobby.

Implementing your title

After choosing carefully your title, the next step is to implement it in your article. You should always implant part of the title, or all of it in your article, this sense of repetitive behavior in a short term, will make the reader remember more. Too much of it, and it will make your article boring. Choosing the right amount if words is critical, thus, a careful implementation is important. For example, if we take the previous titles, “Fly fishing, lures you should now”, one can implement the title in many ways. At the end of the article would be a nice spot to re-mention those words, “Thus keeping this type of lures in mind, and their uses is of vital information if you want to catch more fish”. You don't have to write exactly the same words you used in your title, but having the same meaning will deliver the same repetitive effect.

Choosing your article correctly will improve you writing ability, make you more popular and increases your profit.

Writing and Publishing Not an Easy Task

Writing is a hard and fulfilling job.

Many people in different places believe writing is a nothing to do thing.

To some it may well be.

But to millions of people like me who write and work at it every day is a work of art.

For a disable person such as myself writing keeps me working.

Writing keeps my mind active and happy which makes for a great medium from depression and loneliness.

I really marvel at a lot of people who turn their noses up and laugh at people like me who write.

Writing comes in some many different forms and no two people are alike in their art.

Writing is my own oasis.

As for being published in the world of writing it takes more to actually be published and make good money.

Most people think when you have published something you should be rich.

These people know nothing about the publishing business and should not even go there without looking into it more closely.

Myself I have done much publishing of my works alone.

Many cost me nothing as my work is well liked in many circles of the business.

Of course I have made very little as well in Royalties as well.

I was approached several times by Lucille Ball’s publisher “Dorrance Publishing”.

I was found by them in the Library of Congress where I had filed my copyrights and, each time I filed a new works they were e-mailing me and calling me and so on and so forth.

But to get signed up with them you had to be ready to really put out an expense that many people like you and I cannot afford.

In fact if we could have we would have been a Best Seller tomorrow with our works .Mine alone would have maybe paid off and maybe not.

Writing is a hard job, but to get into the publishing business is much harder on just your credentials only.

I told one publisher if I had the money they wanted to publish me with I would not be seeking their money but watch mine and invest it more wisely.

Many writers live a poor but good life.

Writing makes the world go around for us in writing.

A bad review is sometimes a good review and should not deter anyone from writing on with their works.

You will find criticism everywhere.

You will also find people who will threaten you as well thinking your work means nothing for anyone anywhere as well.

Writing has changed from the “Dark Ages” and well it should have long ago.

In taking my Poet Laureate classes I found that the “Greats” would write Poetry and stories and then you had to place yourself in their minds eye and see all that they saw when they wrote something and it had to be correct or you were wrong and knew nothing about the arts.

Today it is more a free thing for a writer to write what ever takes their fancy at the moment.

I would not like everyone to see and view my Poetry as the same reading, but to expand and see and hear and feel what they wish to see , feel ,and hear ,

That is why I write in so many different ways to get all my works that I enjoy writing out there as there is a market for my works and it makes me feel great when I have succeeded at my works in one way or another. Many people write and tell me they like my works and wish more of it and I keep right on writing and give my one hundred percent to my works so they may enjoy or grasp something that works with their life no matter if it is heartache, sorrow, death, life, love or pleasure.

Rich is not always where life is about.

Yes money is good, but so is the Love of the Arts and making it sometimes poor and doing a good thing.

To many, yes I am poor, but to myself I am rich in my own soul and laugh many do, but only a fool laughs at nothing they know or cannot understand.

So write on everyone and seek your own pleasures and never let anyone put you down for being a person whom works and thinks and writes every day.

We are the rich one’s at heart

“Happiness is one who follows their own path and finds joy in all they do.”

Triond Writer Forum

My husband and I are both writers here on Triond. We both discovered the chat room recently set up by Christian Eaves and thought it was a great idea. The only thing is that with a chat room, people need to be there at the same time to be able to effectively communicate with each other. This can be nearly impossible when users are scattered around the globe in different time zones and schedules.

There seems to be a lot going on here on Triond recently. Some users have been experiencing problems with plagiarism, which is so awful and wrong. There is even a boycott on right now to give support to these users having difficulties. Amit Goyal has written an article on the boycott here. Goodselfme has also written articles on the boycott, and reasons for it, here and here. I didn't join the boycott because I never understood what exactly was going on or why people were and are upset. Writing about issues faced by Triond writers in the Forum could really help others to understand what you are going through and maybe provide them with an avenue to help.

Another use for the forum could be to help new writers get acquainted with how Triond works. It seems like this site is attracting many new writers every single day. I know that I personally receive a ton of questions about various things from new users. I hate to admit it but I don't have all the answers and am frequently unable to answer people really at all. I think that the forum could be a great place to post questions so that many writers would be able to answer and help out. The community here at Triond is really great and I've found that most people are more than willing to help out when needed.

Another issue that seems to be quite popular lately is people having complaints about pay outs. There is a section of the forum dedicated strictly to how to advertise and promote your articles. People can post ideas, suggestions and questions here that, hopefully, will be able to help out other users.

Anyways, the forum can be found here. We're hoping that it provides users with a more unified way to talk about things that are concerning them. Please note that this forum is not sponsored or officially endorsed by the Triond website in anyway. We look forward to hearing from everyone!

Four Great Ways to Make More Money on Triond

Very Often new writers are discouraged from writing because the income seems low and the work seems hard. Let’s face it it’s hard for anyone to keep on writing if they don't see many people viewing their articles or if they don't their daily earnings going up much or at all. Now this is not just a problem for new writers. Even Seasoned content writers and Bloggers have problem actually getting people to view their articles and getting those articles earning cash.

The Biggest problem is NOT your writing. As I said earlier, even seasoned writers have problems getting their views up. You can be the best writer you know, the best writer in your school or club and your views will still be in the toilet and you just don't get why. Here let help you.

Your articles lack views because of marketing. Most people just write an article, publish it on Triond, and hope they get lucky and someone like their article enough to share it with others. That is the biggest mistake most writers make. You cannot just sit back and hope your article does well. You have to take the steps to make your article do well.

Now I know what most of you are thinking "but I'm not a marketer I’m a writer and I don't know about any of this marketing stuff". Well that’s fine don’t worry that’s why I'm here. Let me lay out some simple and effective tips to Get you views up and more Money in your pockets.

Bookmark your articles! There is a "bookmark" button at the bottom of each article you write. USE IT!

If you are a member of an online forum include your latest articles in your signature.

Post a link to it on your MySpace bulletin and Do a Group note on Face book

Make Friends on Triond! The more friends you have the more people will be updated and see when you write a new article. Your friends are also more likely to rate and comment on your Articles.

That’s all for now People. If you liked the advice, do not forget to click the "I liked it" button and leave a comment!

Backing Up Triond

This article follows my article about Printing Out Triond. After losing some drafts and not being able to fix some content, I thought I’d write hints about backing-up your work.

Email, Email, and Email

When you have finished writing your piece, email it to your email account. This is the only way that you can save a draft. The Triond system often stores nothing that you have saved in drafts, so sending a copy to your email ensures that you have a copy ready for editing - if it is declined.

Print Out Every Page

Consider printing a hard copy of your work. As far as I know Triond has not had a major server crash – yet. I recommend that you print out each piece of work, as you never know, computers being how they are….crash. All your great work could be annihilated from a server-crash at Triond.

Don’t rely on the fly

If you are relying on your work being saved in, “Drafts,” or, “Pending Content,” forget it. I have not been able to fix a lot of work that is saved ( or not saved ) on the Triond server. It is simply no longer there.

Back up onto a Flash Disk

This saves paper printing and ensures that you have all your work on a flash drive. You can carry it with you, too.

Save to your Favourites

Favourites are another special way to save your Web sites. They are stored onto your local disk – ready for access – and in your local host. Yet, even the spider web of Socyberties and Pupleslinkies are insufficient, to hold your work.

Conclusion

The rock-solid way for ensuring that none of your work is lost – is printing – out each and every page. It will take time but with current printing technology why not publish your own book!? That way all your work is saved and a beautiful book created. It might even make a nice gift for the Festive season

Happy Backing.

Advice on How to Write an Effective Essay

It's something that we all dread: the essay. Be it five pages or five thousand words, few people enjoy writing assigned essays. We all stress about these assignments, and we're all searching for ways to improved our techniques. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I am here to served. These are a few ways to make your essay more effective, maybe even A worthy!

First of all, pay attention to your structure. Most essays (argumentative, anyway) follow an easy format: intro, arguments (however many you desire), retorts (for those who disagree with your viewpoint), and a conclusion. Be careful about rambling, as well; make every sentence necessary, and keep your wordage to something you would use, because nothing looks more unprofessional than a word used in a completely incorrect context. Keep your essay real, and don't try to pretend to be an expert.

Next, make a clear and easily understood thesis statement. For example, when writing an article on the depression of Abraham Lincoln, write something clear such as “Abraham Lincoln's depression affected him profoundly throughout his life and shaped the America we know today.” Conversely, don't oversimplify it (I.e. “Abraham Lincoln was a really sad guy.”) Make it clear, concise, and to the point, and you will find writing (and reading) your essay much easier.

You should also pick (if possible) a topic that will hold your interest. I'm aware that you can't always pick the topic you write on, but when you can, make sure you pick one you want to write about. You can always tell when an essay is forced, and it's never pleasant to read. The level of annoyance involved in boring articles varies from apathetic to down right antagonistic, and you need to be aware if your essay is drifting toward the drab. Keep it exciting, even if you aren't particularly excited to write it.

The next part may be one of the most important parts: citing. Not only will improper citations look sloppy, it could easily get you accused of plagiarism. There are two commonly used forms of citing works in mainstream use today: MLA (Modern Language Association) Style, and APA (American Psychological Association) Style. I, being the grand and helpful person I am, will provide you with an example of each. First, MLA Style:

Bainton, Roy 1917: Russia's Year of Revolution, New York: Carroll & Graf

Publishers, 2005

See? Not so difficult. Now, onto APA:

Bainton, Roy (2005) 1917: Russia's Year of Revolution , New York: Carroll & Graf Publishers

The two styles are similar, yet different. Now, there are many other ways of formatting, but these two are the most common in high school use, and favorites of myself. To cite in text, simply do this: (Bainton, p. 12). Commit this to memory, it may save your life…or at least your grade. There are many other things to know about citing, as well, but I will leave the more technical details to the more technical books. I recommend The Elements of Style by William Strunk Jr. and E.B. White. It will work wonders on your writing technique.

Finally, you need to check your facts, son. It's pretty darn embarrassing to state that Hitler died in 1956, when, in reality, he died in 1945. Not only do you look like an idiot to most people, you also inspire dozens of conspiracy theories, and nobody likes those. Except, perhaps, for Oliver Stone.

How to Write a Good Story

I have been writing story's for almost 3 years now and there are a couple of tips to remember.

"Five – The man knew not what he did.
Four- It was so cruel and strange.
Three- For he was once a friend.
Two - Could he not feel my pain?
One- Who is truly the monster?

The man clenched his heart and felt the pulsation become stronger. He knew time was here. As he lifted his right arm away from his chest he began to reach for the sky. The flesh of his body turned into a sickly green. His left arm lunged toward the ground supporting his shrinking legs and his growing mass. His muscles began to bulge. He felt the power. He felt the strength. He felt the over-whelming dread.
Spikes emerged from the skin on his arms. His face shrived into a monster’s. He knew what his friend had done, but he forgave. He forgave, at one’s last memories, for men are not those who begin the battles but those who end them.
I was glad it is I who am the man. For beginning it, the monster can only cause problems."

This is a story I wrote on a car trip.

Find a topic or theme that interests you or inspires any emotion.

Use the emotion to write the paper. On many of my compositions I use my anger or passion to write instead of my mind.

In this story it has an opener in which you start to wonder what is happening. Make sure you have something powerful to begin and to end the piece.

Try to end the story with a contemplation or something for us to ponder about. This allows us to analyze the world and it's happening. Make sure you think about it to so you add on or understand what goes through some peoples head.

Make sure you read it out loud so that you can spot any mistakes or stupid errors.

Spell Checker, is a good friend but make sure everything is spelt, punctuated and capitalized. This is because if you don't you can look like a total fool.

Hopefully This Helps.
