A book, a movie, or a play review is a brief critique of a book, a movie, or a play. It is written to guide prospective readers, spectators, or theater goers.

In writing a book, a movie, or a play review, indicate the subject-the title, the author, and the publisher of the book; the title, the playwright, the director, and the producer of the movie; and the title, the playwright, the director, and the producer of the play. Include earlier works of the author and the publisher of the book; the playwright, the director, and the producer of the movie, or the playwright, the director, and the producer play.

State when and where the book was published, when and where the movie was produced, or when and where the play was performed. Include historical background to enable prospective readers, spectators, or theater goers to place the book, the movie, or the play into a specific context.

State who are the main characters in the book, the movie, or the play and who acted them, if any. Include the best character or characters and his, her, or their best line or lines.

Briefly review the story line. Include the best part or parts and the best quotation or quotations of the book, the movie, or the play, but do not reveal the ending.

Describe the general problem that the book, the movie, or the play addresses. Is it instructive, entertaining, interesting, or memorable? Why? Why not?

Respond to the author's or playwright's opinions. What do you agree to? And why? What do you disagree to? And why? Relate your arguments with other books, movies, or plays.

Explore social issues that the book, the movie, or the play raises. What possibilities do the book, the movie, or the play suggests? Explain. What matter does the book, the movie, or the play leave out? Explain.

Relate the book, the movie, or the play to larger social issues. How did the book, the movie, or the play affects you? How is the book, the movie, or the play related to your own personal agenda?

Conclude with a direct comment on the book, the movie, or the play. Did the author and the publishers of the book; the playwright, the director, the producer, and the actors of the movie; and the playwright, the director, the producer, and the actors of the play do a good job? Why? Why not? How could the book, the movie, or the play be improved?

Offer an advice to prospective readers, spectators, or theater goers and rate the book, the movie, or the play using the scale of 1-5 stars: - poor, - fair, - good, - very good, - excellent.
