Stop Butchering the Languages

Stop illiteracy, teach the next generation the importance of language.

I noticed something recently and it really irritated me. On the website of a well known professional news provider, The Associated Press, there was a typo that any fourth grader would've caught.

It said "Snakes Coils around baby in crib."

What it should have said was Snake coils around baby in crib. It is a sad state to be in when a supposed professional can't even take the time to proofread before they publish. Come on people, are journalists getting that lazy?

I know we can't catch every little typo, but I have been noticing more and more frequent typos in the press. I think this world needs a refresher course in literacy. I may seem frustrated but there are some out there that seem to get off on butchering the English language.

I have been a student of the English language for as long as I can remember.

Probably going all the way back to when I was first learning to read, it saddens and sickens me to see the illiteracy rate is rising. I never graduated High School, but I do still study on a regular basis.

Common sense tells us that literacy is necessary for the survival of civilized communication.

I think I am done venting, thanks all for reading, and please make sure you teach your children so that the next generation won't continue the language butchery that the previous generations have.

It is journalism that made this 'illiterate' world. It was a typo that gave our All Blacks their name! They were originally the All Backs until the typo. I agree with you, a new language has emerged. I get very confused these days especially concerning grammatical errors.
