Sell Your Ideas

Start your career in writing by thinking of ideas to write about. It is everywhere – you just have to wonder around and make your fingers do the talking.

Content writing on the internet and magazine writing are one of the easiest and profitable ways for a novice to see her first article published. You just have to be creative, make the beginning of your article rewarding and the ending conclusive. Most of all present it to the editor neatly for most editors refuse to believe that there is such a writer who is so poor that he cannot find a modern computer or a traditional typewriter to configure her thoughts and text in the editorially appropriate manner.

What topics should I write? This is the most common question. Actually the answer is - a lot! Try the theme parks, if you would only look around, you will find lots of seemingly strange combinations and from there you should be able to think of topics to write.

Your personal experience is also one of the best topics to choose from. Sharing your most memorable moments with your first crush in high school, the first words you have written in your diary, the first time you had your menstrual period and how did you cope up with it, how you were terminated from the job you extremely value, how it was to lose a loved one, etcetera. Research works would be very minimal if you choose a topic closes to your heart or you have actually experienced.

In order for you to remember topics you would like to write about, always keep a pen and paper handy with you. Whenever you see phrases or quotations in bookstores, cafeteria, and headline in the news or wherever, write them down. The moment there is something that comes into your mind, write it down. During wee hours and you pee or had a hot coffee and thought of some things, grab your laptop and scribble some notes. All these little hints will soon become interesting topics for you to write. Do not wait for the best time to write or the so called inspiration - the truth is - writing is 99 percent perspiration and that one percent left is for inspiration.

When you daydream, these imaginary experiences are also a good source of topic or tell other people's story without mentioning their real names and change the places they have mentioned. Make note of every success or failure stories you have heard and think of topics and ideas on how to convert these into writing articles for publication.

It also pays to listen to people who are experts in their respective fields like the physicians or the doctors of philosophy, the old policeman who has been in the neighborhood for so long, the postman who has been handling mails to you since you were a child and that women who became an old maid because of taking care your neighbor's children. Go ahead and ask them about their lives and experiences. Offer them a drink or snacks if necessary, make some chit-chat mixed with their favorite soda and a casual conversation may soon turn into a serious or emotional one or end with laughter and tears of joys.

For magazines, they have what they call seasonal articles. These articles come out every valentine's day, Christmas time, all souls day, thanksgiving to mention a few. If this is your target market it would be best to submit them at least six months ahead to include your story in their future issues. You may give them a call two months before your target season and remind them about the story you have submitted. In submitting articles for publication in newspapers or magazines always follow the old rule to include a self-addressed-stamped-envelope or SASE so that whenever your piece is rejected it comes back to you and you would have time to review and rewrite it. The same way like what the Triond editors do when they reject articles it comes with simple explanation why it was rejected and then you are given chances to resubmit it.

Readers also enjoy reading about self-help topics like how to improve cooking the pasta, how to cope up with breakups, to be financially stable and many more. New games on the internet can also catch the attention of young and old readers. The Seven Wonders of the World and the amazing stories never been told but you know them for a fact and you have resources to gather from. All these ideas can make you richer.

An article need not be really new or earth shaking in topic but it has to be original in thoughts and present it in a language that readers would easily understand. Refrain from using high-sounding words that are not familiar to the eyes and ears of the readers. Make it natural but appealing.

The next time I signed in I hope to see your bylines in an article here at Triond or at any on-line publication or in newspaper or magazine articles. Read a lot, read like a writer, read like a curious child - that way very soon another Shakespeare is in the making.
