The Art of Poetry

A poem is the most simple piece of text. You basically have complete freedom except for a few rules. I will try to explain these simple rules to you in an easy lay out.

Intro:

The poets express either there feelings via a poem or they make them for entertainment. The layout tells you whether you are dealing with poetry or a plain text. Its divided into parts and verses.

Layout:

We have certain things we can put within the layout to make the poem sound good:

  • Rhymes: The last word of every sentence rhymes.
  • Alliteration: 2 words on the same line with the same begin letter (Ex: washing it white).
  • Onomatopoeia : The same sounds on different rules.
  • Enjambment : Sentence which goes on in the next line.

Metaphors:

In poems we can find these forms of metaphors:

  • Simile: A sentence with "like" in it which compares 2 things.
  • Metaphor: A comparison without "like" in it personification; giving items or animals human like characteristics.
  • Metonymy : There is no comparison between fantasy and reality.

No Rules!

A poet has no rules that determined his lay out, that's why it is one of the easiest things to write. He doesn't need to use rhyme or capitals! He is 100% free to do whatever he likes.
