Xomba or Triond: Which is Better?

Some thoughts that have been rattling about in my head.

I don't think that I am a prolific enough writer or a high enough earner to make a reasoned judgement on which of these two sites offers the best possibilities for an aspiring internet writer. Especially for those writers who wish to earn ‘loads a money’. I can’t however see why you cannot use both.

Xomba I can’t say as that I have been very involved with the Xomba community,  when I joined I found the layout a bit more confusing so it took me a while to get used to it; though I must say the admin have been helpful and answered any queries that I have had. I think I have found it more difficult to make friends there than in the Triond community but I wonder is that as much to do with my nature as it has to do with the nature of Xomba.  Around about the time that I joined Xomba I also started to have a few problems with my computer this was another reason I found to not be as active there as I could have possibly been, although admittedly my knowledge of computers is very limited and there could be any amount of causes I couldn’t help linking the two together. I realise I am on the internet an awful lot more than I usually am and I am bound to come across problems occasionally. I just need to learn how to get them sorted out quickly and efficiently.

Triond Maybe because I joined Triond first I find the layout  easier to use, I also found that people befriended me much quicker, this surprised me a bit because I have a self perception of being a bit of an oddball! However these two points make me feel more at home in Triond than in Xomba. From a monetary point of view neither community is going to make me rich. I do not as far as I can see write the right sort of articles that will attract lots and lots of reads. I do however feel that Xomba  and Triond can have an important part in my internet adventures in trying to bring my writing to a wider audience, and in my growth as a writer.

For the most part in Xomba I have posted up Xomblurbs (I think this is an excellent idea)!  You just need to write a description of the piece and add the link. I am xomblurbing articles by other people as well as by myself, people who have made me laugh or think. I don’t know if it has helped them in anyway but it can’t hinder them either.

At the moment I am working at being consistent with submitting stuff for publication and hopefully as time goes by I will find my Netch in the online writing market were people will actually see my name and want to read my stuff. Then perhaps I can say were I think the best earning sites are. For the moment though I cannot see why it can’t be seen as a good thing to use both Xomba and Triond.

Geri, I totally agree with you as to we can use both sites. I myself do not like Xomba much. I also joined there as you know, but never find myself on the site. I get very frustrated with the ad sense account and never made a dime. The people there I also find not friendly and they aren't a community like here on triond. In the first week I had spam on my comments, which thoroughly disgusted me. Ill check in on you now and then though, I promise. Your friend always,
Linda

Geri, finding the right market is not an easy task, and you maybe surprise to know that online world isn't that stable either! It's all on that one click to pass on..

If you love writing, just write, the other part will come..even if it isn't, you still love doing what you love!

Geri, ditto on everything you wrote here.

Drop in on me in Xomba one day :) (so far I only found Alison West)

I have just read Allison's article on Xomba, I had a look and am in that, shall I? Shan't I? stage. I found your article interesting and might have another look.

Interesting article. I have never tried Xomba. I will give it a look.

Always good to hear the stories about other sites for online writers. I didn't know Xomba, but I have some experience with HubPages, Triond, Squidoo, Helium, Associated Content etcetera... And layout, community, tools, etc. make HubPages, Triond and Squidoo far out the best places to be as an on line writer (my experience).

I have a difficult enough time keeping up with Triond and all the efforts put there. I admire you for being able to keep 2 or more. Wishing you well. I have missed your posts here, friend.

I'll second goodselfme's comments, it's all I can do to consistently post just to Triond!

My own articles have a fairly small, but consistent readership, however regarding your comment:
"do not as far as I can see write the right sort of articles that will attract lots and lots of reads"
Athlyn Green has done a couple of articles on the types of writing and titles that get greater hits. You might want to scan those for ideas.

I cannot say anything about other sites because I have not tried them. What I can say is that I started to write here on Triond for fun and have no ambition to be an Online Author.

I thought I might submit a few things and see what comments they might draw just out of curiosity and then be on my way to some other thing or other. However, I quickly found that the people here are a great group of folks and quite a few friendships were formed.

I'm stuck here but not unhappily.

I have to say I have tried other sites and no matter what my earnings I always devote more time to Triond. I think it's mainly because of my friends on here. It's like meeting for a cup of coffee everyday, I just can't get enough.

This is why I love Triond, people are willing to share their experiences and their thoughts..Linda thankyou for mentioning the spam in Xomba, I also was spammed but forgot to mention it in my article.

Awesome! I think Xomba-v-Triond kinda like Jesus-v-Buddha for me; Buddha (whoever the \'original\' one was, anyway) makes just as much sense as Jesus, but I met Jesus first! But--as I come to see that Jesus was ALSO a Buddha--so I might come to see that Xomba is ALSO a \"Triond.\"

But--beside the fact that I \'met\' Xomba first--Xomba also does email-alerts for 1) comments-on-past-articles, 2) comments-on-past-comments, 3) comments-on-articles-you\'ve-commented AND 4) articles-on-chosen-subjects; and email has always been my \'homepage\' (i.e. whence I launch into the Internet).

(I think that\'s true for everyone, which why \'big affiliates\' are always saying \"The money\'s in the list (of email-addresses)\"---i.e. people aren\'t going out into the web in hopes of finding you unless you come to their cyber-doors and give them a lifeline!

Good to hear what you had to say Geri, its fairly confusing when trying to find your way around when this is all fairly new, like it is to me.

What a great article Geri! I just found it while on Xomba and followed your Xomblurb. I've been thinking a lot about writing as an art and a business lately, and just submitted an article to Triond today on that topic...

As for me, I love both, Triond and Xomba! Something about Xomba and AdSense is really working for me, I'm getting close to making my hundred dollar payout at AdSense. I haven't been spammed yet, but I agree that the community is more intimate on Triond. On Associated Content and Xomba, I don't feel as embraced by the community as I do here (though I like AC a lot and I started with out with them).

Balancing the need to make money now with artistic fulfillment is a challenge for me. I'm looking for work and going back to school in January, so every dollar counts. So I'm working hard on Xomba to build earnings and I'll continue to contribute to Triond and AC for the love of writing and because I like the sense of community!

It is confusing to juggle writing for AC, Triond and Xomba, it can be hard to write for a bunch of sites.

Best of luck to you and all my fellow Trionders!-Allison.
