Although you are writing for the public at large, your first public are those who write for Triond. As you notice, with 'Hot Content', most of the articles are "lists"; the "Ten Best...." "Twelve Famous...." etc. which is discouraging for those who write poetry or prose.
However, despite never seeing your work on the front page, you can, over time, gain quite a readership. Firstly, and dealing with the Triond community, always "police' your content for comments and always respond. I use the term "police" because there are many spammers who will use the opportunity to comment to sell their particular "product".
By visiting your content every day, and checking comments you will be able to delete spam and other remarks which are not only unsuitable, but chase readers and stop others from commenting. By keeping your "comments" clean and on point, you open a dialog with readers so they can appreciate that comments are read and responded to, which encourages more comments. Visit the sites of those who took the time to comment on your work and comment on their's, add them as friends. Secondly, outside of the Triond community, go to fora which focus on your particular writing; whether science fiction, poetry, how-to, etc. Join the fora and participate, don't just become a self spammer. Ask others to read your work and comment on it.
Don't be a pest with constantly leaving hypertexted links, but be part of the community. Refer to your work when it is relevant to a point raised, so that there is a reason why you are mentioning it. Invite others to join Triond, again a valid reason why you are on the forum or message board discussing what you published with Triond. Not everyone knows Triond exists, so you are helping other aspiring writers. Remember, once you post on Triond, the article remains. Over time, you will gather many views. This is where key words, "tags" are important. No one might be interested in an article about hurricanes until one is about to hit. Hence, what you published to little note in November is exploding in June.
Triond is not a "get rich" scheme or a catapult to fame. It is a place where you can publish your work, get it viewed, hopefully commented upon, so that you can improve as a writer. Further, once you are published on Triond you are a published writer, and can use this fact in a resume.
